Handcrafted throw pillows, bedding,
window treatments &
seat cushions
designed for how you actually live—
with strategic fabric guidance to protect your investment

Unlike typical sewing workrooms that just fabricate what you order, we're Greensboro's custom pillow maker that specializes in fabric consultations—providing strategic guidance to help you achieve the look you want and functionality you need. We combine economics-trained fabric evaluation with 20+ years of design and fabrication experience to direct you to smart fabric investment decisions BEFORE handcrafting your custom pillows, bedding, window treatments, and seat cushions.

Most fabric decisions happen in isolation—stores sell, designers select, workrooms sew. We do it all. We source, evaluate, design, AND handcraft—which means we understand what fabrics work where and why, not just in theory, but from real-world experience making custom home furnishings for real homes with real families.

What Makes Us Different: Strategic Fabric Guidance, Not Just Fabric Selection

Most pillow makers and businesses that make custom bedding, seat cushions and other home furnishings operate as order-takers—you select fabric, they fabricate it. We operate as fabric strategists—we guide you to smart material and design decisions before anything is made. This means you get handcrafted home décor designed specifically for how you live.

This consultative approach draws on 20+ years of real-world experience seeing how materials perform in actual homes. We know:

  • • Which fabrics can handle kids, pets, and everyday life

  • • What outdoor fabrics resist fading in strong sun while providing sophisticated comfort

  • • How pattern scale, pillow shape, and sizing affect visual impact

  • • Which construction and finishing details make truly stunning pillows that maintain their appeal for years, not months

  • • How to coordinate fabrics, styles, and materials across bedding, window treatments, cushions, and the furniture they'll live with for cohesive results

Our economics-trained thinking about fabric evaluation and design planning focuses your investment dollars where they'll deliver the most value—whether you're maximizing a limited budget or splurging on high-end fabrics.

The result: Better fabric decisions, fewer expensive mistakes, and handcrafted home furnishings that perform beautifully for how you actually live.

What this means for you: Whether you need personalized guidance and sourcing (our Fabric Consultation: Selection, Sourcing & Strategy service) or just have a quick question while ordering pillows, you're partnering with someone who understands fabrics and design deeply—not just someone who can sew.

You're welcome to shop our collection or bring your own fabric for whatever project you're planning:

  • Pillows: Euro shams, traditional pillow shams, lumbar pillows, bolster pillows, throw pillows, and outdoor pillows

  •   • Bedding: Duvets, bed skirts, duvet covers, and bed runners

  • Window treatments: Curtains, valances, cornices, and faux Roman shades

  • Cushions (Indoor or Outdoor): Chaise lounge, seat, window seat, bench, settee, banquette, dining chair covers/skirts, and reupholstering dining chair seats

Whether you've already purchased fabric elsewhere, have sentimental materials you want honored, or have remnants from previous projects, bring your fabric to us. We accept materials you provide (called Customer's Own Material or COM in the design industry) including first-quality high-end fabric and trims, designer remnants, seconds you’re not sure about, as well as pillow inserts and foam you just bought or you want to repurpose. Our thorough evaluation ensures your materials—regardless of where you purchased them or how you acquired them—are well-suited to your vision before we begin fabrication. We assess your materials holistically and point you toward applications that showcase them while ensuring they'll perform well for your intended use.

We love helping you find fabric and seeing the materials you bring us and discovering what's possible with them. Whether we're working with your fabrics or ours, all materials receive the same careful consideration, creativity, and craftsmanship.

Three ways to work with us:

  • Somewhere in between? We meet you where you are—most projects include some level of conversation as we refine details and possibilities together

Common Questions About
Custom Throw Pillows
—Expert Fabric Advice &
Pillow Styling Guidance

After making thousands of pillows over 20+ years, we've learned that the best results come from asking the right questions early—before selecting fabric or finalizing designs.

1. "How many pillows do I need and what sizes?"

  • Our pillow arrangement guidance takes the guesswork out of determining quantities and sizing—whether you're styling a cozy reading chair, an oversized sectional, or coordinating decorative pillows across open-concept spaces. We consider your furniture scale, existing décor, and how you actually use each space.

→ Browse our Pillow Sizing & Arrangement Guides.

2. “This designer fabric is gorgeous but will it work with pets and kids?”

  • We match fabric performance to your real life—not picture-perfect photography or carefully curated Pinterest wish lists. High-traffic family rooms need different materials than formal living spaces or guest bedrooms. Many of today's performance and indoor-outdoor materials come in such supple textures and sophisticated patterns that you’d never guess they were so effective at handling daily wear, pet hair, and spills.

→ See Fabric Consultation: Selection, Sourcing & Strategy and Handcrafted Custom Home Furnishing Design Services.

3. “What's the best fabric for throw pillows?”

  • Beyond consideration of how a fabric blends with your décor (color, pattern, scale, texture, and style), choosing fabric for pillows depends entirely on where and how they'll be used. Consider hand-feel, fiber content, weight, drape, durability (double rub counts), and performance features. Pillows near south/west windows and outdoor pillows need fabric with UV protection for fade-resistance. Everyday throw pillows on sofas need stain-resistance and durability (30,000+ double rubs), while decorative accent pillows in less frequently used rooms require lower rub counts. Based on your specific situation—kids, pets, sun exposure, and daily wear—we recommend specific options from indoor-outdoor solutions like Sunbrella and Thibaut InsideOut, performance fabrics like Crypton, or traditional decorator fabrics.

→ See Fabric Consultation: Selection, Sourcing & Strategy and Custom Throw Pillows Made with Your Fabric or Ours

4. "How do I choose the right fabric for custom pillows?"

  • Different pillow types have different fabric requirements. Euro shams and pillow shams benefit from natural fibers like cotton or linen for breathability and longevity with daily use. Lumbar pillows and bolster pillows used for back support or lounging need higher durability (15,000–30,000+ double rubs) and possibly stain-resistance. High-traffic throw pillows require durable, easy-to-clean performance fabrics, while decorative accent pillows—whether square, lumbar, or bolster—can showcase luxury designer materials and highly tactile fabrics like faux fur and bouclé.

Our fabric strategy guidance means you don't have to figure this out alone. We evaluate durability, quality, and suitability for your intended use—not just hand you a list of options. We know what materials will maintain their appearance over time, how to mix patterns and textures for visual interest, and how to achieve the specific comfort and feel you want for your space.

→ See Fabric Consultation: Selection, Sourcing & Strategy and Custom Throw Pillows Made with Your Fabric or Ours

5. "How do I mix patterns without it looking chaotic?"

6. "I have fabric I love but don't know what's possible"

  • We evaluate your existing materials—whether recently
purchased, remaining from a previous project, or sentimental—and recommend the best applications. Sometimes that means pillows. Sometimes it means saving that fabric for window treatments or bedding where it'll make a bigger impact.

→ See Bring Your Own Fabric or COM Services for Interior Designers (pages coming soon)

7. "I want custom pillows but don't want to overspend"

  • Our economics-trained thinking directs your spending on home decor where it will provide the most aesthetic appeal and/or real-world functionality. This could mean investing in a few statement pillows—or choosing performance fabrics for high-use pieces while splurging on luxury material or designer trim for accent pillows in low-traffic spaces.

How to Select Stylish, Durable Fabrics That Maximize Your
Home Décor Spending

My economics background fundamentally changed how I make fabric decisions—I think in cost-per-year, not just upfront price. A $150 performance fabric pillow that lasts 8+ years without fading or showing wear costs less annually than a $60 pillow that needs replacing every 2 years or so. This math changes everything.

Whether you're maximizing a limited budget or investing in luxury designer fabrics, the principle stays the same: focus your home décor spending where it will deliver the most impact—not just what looks good, but what performs best for how you actually live. That might mean investing in distinctive, yet durable cut velvet pillow covers with sumptuously plump pillow inserts for your sofa (high visibility, daily use) while choosing less expensive options like designer remnants for Euro shams on the queen bed in your guest bedroom (low visibility, occasional use). Or selecting long lasting, fade-resistant outdoor materials for your sun-drenched porch while splurging on intricately embroidered linen for a statement lumbar pillow on the loveseat in your formal living room.

This economics-trained approach provides direction for making strategic trade-offs that maximize both beauty and performance within your budget—whatever that budget may be. We're not trying to upsell you. We’re helping you think about where your investment matters most.

Fabric Recommendation Based on Real-World Use, Not Just Manufacturer Claims

We've made thousands of pillows as well as bedding, window treatments, and seat cushions over 20+ years—and more importantly, we've seen how they hold up. Clients come back months or years later for new projects, and they share what's worked—and what hasn't. We've seen it all: the gorgeous linen pillow that pills after six months, the indoor-outdoor fabric that still looks fresh after five years of family room use, and the 'stain-resistant' designer fabric that couldn't handle one red wine spill. Sometimes the failures are fabrics clients chose before working with us. Sometimes they're materials that simply didn't perform as manufacturers promised.

This real-world feedback has taught us which fabrics actually deliver on their performance promises and which attractive materials simply can't handle real life with kids, pets, and daily wear.

We know what fade-resistant fabrics handle strong sun exposure best (crucial for outdoor living spaces and sunrooms) while providing supple texture and attractive patterns that make people question whether they really are outdoor fabrics. Performance and indoor-outdoor options have evolved tremendously—many are surprisingly soft and stylish while being genuinely pet-friendly, stain-resistant, and durable.

Every fabric recommendation we make draws on this real-world testing, not just manufacturer claims. We suggest materials that will perform well in your specific situation—whether that's an active family room, a sun-drenched breakfast nook, or your home office that doubles as a homework space.

Intentional Design: We Focus on How You Actually Live

Your situation and preferences matter most. It's your investment, not ours, so your needs and comfort with every decision guide everything we create together. Our client-first philosophy and solution-oriented consultations focus on how you actually live rather than rigid design rules.

We believe good design doesn't always mean starting from scratch. Before recommending new purchases, we evaluate what you already have. Can current pillow covers be refreshed with new pillow inserts when current inserts are flat or shedding feathers? Should we recover worn patio cushions or replace sagging foam on that sofa you love rather than buying new furniture entirely? This sustainable, economics-minded thinking often delivers better value while honoring pieces that suit your space.

From updating and using furniture you already have, to repurposing
treasured materials or using fabrics remaining from other projects, we guide you through making wise choices that build your home's story and create a cohesive, collected-over-time look.

These sustainable practices align well with slow decorating—buying fewer, higher-quality pieces that reflect your authentic style and continue working as your life evolves.

If we can save you money, extend the life of pieces you love, or simplify a decision, we will.

Client Partnerships
That Span Decades:
Not Transactions,
Ongoing Relationships

We've partnered with some clients for 15 to 20 years—starting with custom decorative throw pillows for their first home, then window treatments when they moved to a larger house, and outdoor cushions for their new mountain condo or beach house. However, it’s not all about making more; it’s about listening to what clients need. We assist clients with adapting what they have so they can continue using existing décor and cherished pieces in new situations and locations. These aren't just transactions; they're ongoing relationships where we understand their style evolution, budget realities, and how their needs change through different life stages.

Our clients often tell us they wish they'd found us sooner—the confidence and clarity our collaboration provides makes all the difference. Once they experience partnering with someone who sources, evaluates, designs, AND fabricates, vwe typically become their first-choice fabric resource and go-to designer forvpillows and other home furnishings.

When Aubrey Home and local Greensboro fabric stores closed in 2024, we became one of the few remaining sources for quality home décor fabric and expert guidance in the Greensboro area. Clients are now even more eager to schedule a Discovery Meeting in our Greensboro studio—they value personalized advice, hands-on fabric exploration, and a chance to see our extensive collection of designer decorative throw pillow covers.

Serving Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, and the greater NC Triad, we've become the go-to custom pillow maker for clients who want strategic fabric guidance, not just expert craftsmanship.

“I'm so glad I found Melissa. I have so many projects that it's hard to decide where to start. After talking with her, I know where I want to focus first—pillows sized just right for the loveseat in my keeping room—and am excited about making my guest room more comfortable and welcoming in time for company coming."

— Client who started with custom throw pillows and is planning a window seat cushion, custom curtains, and Euro shams for guest room

Our Designer Throw Pillow Collection: Curated Starts, Custom Finishes

Our online throw pillow cover collection is just a sampling of hundreds of handcrafted pillow options possible with our in-studio fabric collection. What you see online is intentionally selective—we've chosen designs that show a range of options, from performance fabrics to designer prints, giving you a starting point for custom possibilities. We also design and fabricate bedding, window treatments, and seat cushions.

Our made-to-order throw pillows and other home furnishings mean you get precisely what you want—custom designs that match your décor and fit your lifestyle—rather than settling for mass-produced home décor.

Why selective online inventory? We're a custom pillow maker and fabric strategist, not a warehouse. Exceptional fabric selection, strategic pattern placement, and thoughtful design for you and our existing clients takes priority over rushing to list more designer decorative throw
pillow covers online.

The best results in decorating come from taking time to curate a home thoughtfully—not rushing to fill every space. We apply this same philosophy to our business. We're growing intentionally and prioritizing quality over quantity in our client work and online collection.

Behind the scenes, we're steadily photographing and listing pillow covers from our extensive collection—which includes high-end designer prints, luxury embroidered, lush chenille and velvet, performance, and indoor-outdoor options.
