The type of insert depends on the desired look you are trying to achieve and the usage of your pillow. There are numerous options available for the type of insert you can choose. However, not all pillow inserts are suitable for all uses and environments and they certainly are NOT all created equally. We recommend buying the highest quality pillow insert that is within your budget.

Well-made 95 / 5 Feather Down Inserts and Synthetic Down Alternative Pillow Inserts (aka faux down, microfiber down alternative or micro denier) are sumptuously plump and hold the iconic karate chop look beautifully.
95 / 5 Feather Down Inserts
Filling: 95% Feather 5% Down filling
Shell: 100% Cotton
Spot clean only.
For extra fluffiness and to refresh/fluff, add a tennis ball and your feather down insert to your dryer's no-heat drying cycle for several minutes.
Indoor use only.
Synthetic Down Alternative Pillow Inserts
Filling: 100% Polyester fiber filling
Shell: Polyester cotton blend
Machine washable cold & machine dry low. For extra fluffiness, add a tennis ball to your drying cycle.
To refresh/fluff, add a tennis ball and your synthetic down alternative insert to your dryer's no-heat drying cycle for several minutes.
Indoor use only.

The Synthetic Down Alternative Pillow Inserts we offer are hypoallergenic, cruelty free, have no feathers to poke you, are equal weight to high quality feather down inserts and provide the ultimate in softness. Not to mention these machine washable inserts are odorless, lint free and dust free. All of this makes these are our preferred inserts of choice.While these inserts are for indoor use only technically speaking, we have not had issues using them in covered outdoor areas where they are protected from rain.
Outdoor Pillow Inserts
Filling: 100% pure polyester fiberfill
Shell: 100% Polypropylene (non-woven polyester) covering
Hand washable. Air dry only.
Designed for indoor-outdoor use, water resistant and non-allergenic.
We plan to offer a product option for these soon.
Poly-fill Pillow Inserts
Filling: 100% pure polyester fiberfill
Shell: Cotton or non-woven polyester covering options
Machine washable.
Only inserts with non-woven polyester covers should be used outdoors. Cotton covers are not water resistant and can be prone to mildew.
While the lower price point and non-allergenic nature of poly-fill inserts is appealing, they cannot hold the iconic karate chop look. They do not have much "give" so do not fill out the corners of pillow covers fully. Poly-fill inserts are stiffer, less comfortable, and most are prone to lumping even if they are designed to be "more resistant to lumping."
