"My love of fabric is what got me started, and what has kept me going is the sense of accomplishment from working with clients to solve real-life problems—whether it's finding performance materials that handle how you live, working around unexpected flaws in designer fabric, or making custom throw pillows from a vintage fur cape."

It’s All About
the Trade-offs:
From Data to Design

Before I made a single throw pillow, I spent years analyzing data and conducting economic research. I hold a master's degree in economics—and the training that mattered most wasn't the math itself, but learning to weigh trade-offs. Every choice has an opportunity cost: choosing one option means giving up another, and the real question is always what you gain or lose either way.

That thinking shows up in nearly every decision we make together. Sometimes it's about fabric: using a luxury designer print for a long lumbar pillow instead of a pair of square throw pillows, so you get the fabric you love in a statement piece with a fraction of the yardage. Sometimes it's about the whole project: want to refresh your open floor plan living area? Start by upgrading your daily lounging with a mix and match throw pillow combination for your sofa, then recover your breakfast nook seat cushions to make your morning coffee routine feel worth sitting down for, and layer in living room curtains when you're ready. Prioritizing your budget toward what will make the biggest difference in your everyday life—that's opportunity cost thinking, put into practice.

Most clients don't care about the term "opportunity cost." They care about getting the most out of their home décor spending—and that's exactly what this way of thinking provides.

Learning by Doing

When I was decorating my first home, I couldn't find ready-made pieces that met my needs. Rather than compromise, I taught myself to sew—one challenging project at a time, taking on clients from the very beginning. School of life, not design school.

Growth over the past 20+ years has mostly been from referrals and repeat business. Clients reach out when they have questions or another project—they ask if I'm still sewing. My answer's usually some version of: I'm still here because they keep coming back. Sometimes it's something small, like outdoor throw pillows to coordinate with patio seat cushions we made a few years ago, or custom bedding and Euro shams to refresh their king bed. Sometimes it's bigger, like window treatments and other finishing touches once they've finally bought that vacation property they'd been talking about. And often, it's simply that they trust us to help them figure out a solution—whatever the problem or decorating challenge is.

Shopping for fabric, along with fabrication and design consultations, has always happened here, in our Greensboro studio. We sold our pillows at Aubrey Home for nearly 13 years, then briefly at Martin's Mercantile—now, you can shop our throw pillows and fabrics, all in one place. Complimentary Discovery Meetings and Personal Shopping Appointments provide access to our Greensboro studio by appointment.

What I'm Working on Now

Between client projects, I'm pulling together two decades of what I've learned firsthand to build a library of the fabric knowledge I wish more people had before they shop for home décor fabric—what to look for, what to avoid, and how to choose the right fabric for your intended use. These resources will help you shop for fabric at every price point with confidence—whether you're looking for first-quality yardage, designer remnants, deadstock, seconds, or vintage textiles.

Our free Fabric Quality Evaluation Cheat Sheet is the first piece of that library—a 1-page fabric buying checklist you can bring shopping, reference while searching for fabric online, or use to assess materials you already have.

I’m also planning Design Chats—casual, in-person Q&A sessions at our Greensboro studio covering real decorating questions, from how to balance pattern scale to what to consider when choosing pet-friendly upholstery fabric. Submit our short interest form and get our free quick-start guide showing how to mix patterns and layer sectional throw pillows.

In the meantime, our Home Décor Fabric Buying Insider Secrets hub, Blog, and Insider List email and text updates] are where I'm sharing what I can, as I can.
