Meet Melissa
Melissa Creech | Pillow Designer & Custom Home Furnishings Creator Since 2004
"I am genuinely at home when immersed in the world of pattern, texture, and color while collaborating with clients on personalized home design solutions."
When Aubrey Home and multiple local home décor fabric stores in Greensboro closed in 2024, I became one of the few remaining sources for quality home décor fabric in Greensboro. Many clients tell me they're grateful not to have to drive to High Point hoping to find the right fabric that coordinates perfectly with their existing or planned décor. And they love working with an experienced craftsperson who's "been there, done that" and has a client-first, budget-conscious, sustainability-minded, solution-oriented approach to selecting fabric and designing livable luxury home décor.
From Data to Design
Before I began creating designer decorative pillows and sourcing ideal fabrics for local and online clients, I was analyzing complex data and conducting economic research. I hold a master's degree in economics and spent years in economic consulting, where precision and meticulous attention to detail were absolutely essential.
When I embraced my love for textiles and began applying that same analytical rigor toward precisely creating handcrafted pillows and custom home furnishings, I discovered my true calling. That economics training shows up in everything I do—from strategic fabric planning and budget-conscious material selection to maximizing high-end designer fabrics (like choosing lumbar pillows over square throw pillows when you want luxury fabric but need to keep cost in check), precise pattern placement, and helping clients get the most value from their investment.
From Simple Projects to Thriving Custom Textile Workroom
Over 20 years later, the same commitment to quality that led me to start my business still drives everything I do. I created my business because I couldn't find ready-made pieces that met my exacting standards. Many looked mass-produced and impersonal, while available custom options didn't feel aligned with my needs or budget constraints. Rather than compromise, I taught myself to sew—one challenging project at a time, taking on clients from the very beginning in an apprentice-style, hands-on learning approach through the school of life, not design school.
What I lack in formal design training, I make up for in client focus. I don't follow rigid design rules—your opinion matters most to me. It's your space and your investment, not mine, so your needs and preferences are paramount. I actively sought out different project types to build my skills and expertise through real-world experience with real clients—and I continue to do so even now.
Over the years, I developed the expertise to create exactly what I need—and what my Greensboro and NC Triad clients need too. What began as a passionate startup has evolved into a custom home furnishings workroom and interior design studio, though I still personally handcraft every piece.
Initially, I offered made-to-order pillows and design services from my in-home fabric workroom. In 2012, I expanded by launching a curated collection of handcrafted pillows at Aubrey Home in Greensboro, where I remained for nearly 13 years while continuing to serve clients with custom home furnishings: pillows, bedding, window treatments, seat cushions, and more.
My approach has always been built around how you actually use your spaces—resulting in designs that feel intentional, authentic, and perfectly suited for each person or family's current life chapter.
Even with incredible textile resources available just minutes away in High Point—the Home Furnishings Capital of the World—clients in Greensboro and the NC Triad consistently tell me they feel overwhelmed and struggle to find the specific fabric or home goods they're seeking. They want someone who understands how they actually live—not just how they want things to look—and can efficiently navigate High Point's vast fabric and furnishing marketplace. They want local expertise. They want someone who can thoughtfully narrow the options and help them feel genuinely confident in their selections. That's where I come in—I transform those overwhelming options into a manageable, focused selection that feels right for you and your space.
When Aubrey Home and both local home décor fabric stores in Greensboro closed in 2024, new and longtime clients began relying on me even more frequently for both custom work and comprehensive fabric sourcing from High Point showrooms, online resources, and our in-studio collection.
Still Here, Still Sewing, Still Serving
In 2025, I relocated my boutique pillow collection to Martin’s Mercantile in Summerfield, NC, and began hosting "Design Chats with Melissa" at Martin's Mercantile—casual, informative gatherings to discuss custom pillows, fabric combinations, and practical design strategies.
Our Greensboro custom sewing workroom and interior design studio remains the creative hub for all custom work, personalized design consultations, fabric sourcing appointments, and discovery meetings.
Still Here, Still Sewing—And Still Passionate About What You Already Love
I've had the privilege of refreshing and repurposing pieces for the same clients over many years—replacing sagging cushion foam, updating flat pillow inserts, adding fresh pillow covers, or completely remaking window treatments as homes and personal styles naturally evolved. Good design doesn't always mean buying new.
There's something deeply rewarding about refreshing and repurposing what you already love. Rather than starting from scratch, we often start from what matters most—honoring the life already lived in your space.
That kind of thoughtful reworking isn't just practical—it reflects how I approach all design: with care, intention, and respect for the pieces that already have a place in your home and heart.
Over the years, I've worked with families through every life chapter—growing into new homes, creating second-home retreats, transitioning to retirement, or thoughtfully downsizing. What you consistently tell me is that you want someone who truly listens, understands your needs, and can create something custom, personal, and lasting.
It's why I'm still here, still sewing—and still passionate about helping you make the most of what you already love.
